frye boots

What’s the big fuss over Frye boots?

The Frye Company, which has been making boots since 1863, is the longest-running shoe company in the United States.
Over the years, the company has gained a cult following for its quality and versatility. Some styles, like the Harness or Engineer Boot (originally created to protect bikers from the heat of exhaust pipes), are just as likely to be seen coupled with a motorcycle as a long bohemian skirt. Others, like the Campus Boot, are considered cultural icons from the ’60s and ’70s. (Seriously! There’s even a pair in the Smithsonian.) Throughout the years, they have been paired with everything from rocker jeans to sexy minis. Frye boots can be seen on many of your favorite celebs!

But, what really matters is what you’d do with them, because if you win this giveaway, you’ll get a $100 Shopbop.com instant gift card so you can start shopping right away for your new wardrobe staple. Just tell us which pair of Frye boots is your favorite and how you’d wear them. The most inspirational, insightful comment wins! We, at A Few Goody Gumdrops know which is our favorite pair!!!! Wish we could enter!

We were meeting our mother for lunch one day, on a hazy autumn day. Both my sister and I are experimental with our fashion, but extremely budget conscious, as the three of us all share our meager incomes with one another. So when mom showed up wearing a delicious dark green crocodile skin waist belt, we gasped. Not only was it fabulous, but ostensibly way out of our price range -- where had she gotten it, we had to know! "Oh, this? From the '70s," she told us.

I want my style to be like mom's - timeless but forward. I want my wardrobe to be like her's - rich with high quality investments that will last forever, which still look beautiful after being wrapped in crinkled old silks in a suitcase for ages. And I want my attitude to be like her's - smart, alert, and extremely appreciative of fine things that will last forever.

Frye never sells out to whatever is the newest, hottest, latest flash-bang fly-by trend. Their boots are made with superior craftsmanship and a solid grasp on what is not only stylish now -- but what also what will be stylish forever. On one hand, I love the Frye Matilda Button Tall Boots - the colors are scrumptious! But the special place in my heart goes to the Frye Maxine Trapunto Harness Boots - now there is a boot that embraces everything that is hot right this moment, but will also look good just about forever. This kind of timeless style and top notch craftsmanship is everything my mom inspires me to look for.

The Veronica Slouch Boots would be my everyday staple. They're slightly more modern than the classic Engineer Boots and the 14" shaft would keep me warm while looking pretty stinking hot with miniskirts this winter. I'd love to rock the Matilda Button Tall Boots but I have to admit, I tend to keep my feet closer to the ground and the Veronicas are more likely to keep me sure-footed!

I've never seen Frye boots in person, but I've heard so much about them, and all good things too.

My mom told me all about her Frye boots that she saved up for and bought right before she went to Woodstock! She went to Woodstock the day before it started and stayed for the entire duration. It sounded like an amazing time... And she experienced it all in her Frye boots. Makes me want a pair!!

All of their styles are gorgeous... I think my favorite pair is the Frye Frankie Buckle Boots. I can imagine all the outfits I could wear them with... if only I could afford them!

I love the Matilda Button boots as well, especially the red color. I am a petite girl who loves to wear high heels all the time but i also love to be comfortable. The style of boot is great and I also heard that Frye boots are very comfortable- a great combination for a show!

The thing I love about Frye shoes is that you'll be flipping through a magazine and see these gorgeous shoes that just seem *perfect* and lo and behold, they're from Frye. I have one pair of Frye shoes, leather wedge heels which I l-o-v-e (almost so much to where I'm afraid of wearing them in public in case they get dirty!)

But I would love to add a pair of boots to my burgeoning collection, particularly the Matilda Tall-Button Boots (navy, please!). I love how they're a throwback to prim-and-proper Victorian times, and they would definitely be a statement piece to any outfit. Slept in? Throw on a well-worn T and stuff some skinny jeans into those boots and you'll look stunning. Or dress them up for a party look, work, etc. That's my kind of boot. If they cost $448, I better get as much use out of them as possible!

(Another sidenote is that they remind me of Samantha from the American Girl series. I always wanted a pair of her boots that you could buy from the catalog but never did. These are the grown-up, hipped-up version!)

I like 'em tall, high-heeled, and buckled down. And if I can't get diamonds on the soles, I'll take gold studs near it.

The no-nonsense brown Frankie Buckle Boots are for me. I'll run this town with them.

I have a pair of Frye's (don't know the style name) and they are like 5" and still so comfy!I would love to get the Melissa Riding Field Boots -- such a classic look, and I know the quality and comfort will be phenomenal.

My fashion buck needs to go a lot further than it used to, so I'd pick a FRYE boot that is timeless, like the "Maxine Trapunto Shortie Boot" in Dark Brown. I want style, sure, and these have more "fashion guts" to them than the classic engineer boot, but not too trendy so they won't pass in a flash. I could see wearing them with a cute flowery dress topped with a cropped denim jacket, or my boyfriend jeans and an Alexander Wang tee with an oversized boyfriend jacket and "femmy" jewelry to take the edge off.
Comfort and style melded together"...That's my mantra.

The word vintage, was new to me until I inherited some vintage 70's dresses from my mother as they were too small for her. On closer inspection I soon fell in love with the tailoring and attention to design. This is exactly what drew me to my current boot obession, with Frye boots. The vintage appeal in tough yet quality leather, yet maintaining that western feel.

Alas, for me the Frye Frankie Buckle Boots has caught my eye, the modern design, yet attention to detail in the thigh high double buckle design and studded heel has me doing a double take as I would be years to come with this leather beauty.

I will admit that one of the biggest motivators in finishing my dissertation are the rewards I've linked to the writing process. Two years ago, I asked myself: "What's the one thing you really want to splurge on that would get your through the writing phase of this doctoral degree?" The answer is pinned up by my computer as I write: a photo of the Campus 14L boot.

As a graduate student and a mom, there aren't many opportunities for me to go shopping for myself. But that hasn't stopped me from tracking trends or honing my own sense of style. And ever since I "found" the Campus boot a few years ago, I've had my heart set on a pair of my own. I'm happy to say that my sweet husband gifted me with a lovely pair of Frye tall sandals since then, but he and I both know that the Campus has a special place on my Penultimate Wish List. ;)

Now that I'm only a few months away from achieving my milestone, I'm doing my own research -- but this time it's on Frye boots. :) They have such an impressive variety of styles -- but one thing remains the same in all of them: outstanding workmanship. Frye has become synonymous with quality and enduring style -- and there's not a boot in their line that I don't adore.

In my final stretch of writing, I keep my eye on my own photo of the Campus 14L... and will appreciate what it took to earn them when I finally get *my* pair. :)

I adore the Frankie Buckle Boots. I mean honestly who wouldn't. The fact that Frye boots have been around forever *in my world* doesn't escape what little fashion sense I have, to me it means they've been able to withstand the test of time and go with the flow.
I can picture myself wearing those Frankie Buckle boots over a pair of skinny jeans to show off in all their glory. Despite the fact that I've never worn skinny jeans before. I can see myself wearing those babies everywhere-perched on a stool in some random coffee house sipping a warm cup of mocha, browsing through my favorite bookshop paired with a soft and cozy, chunky sweater, walking my children to school knowing all the other moms are checking them out while trying to be inconspicuous because they can't help but envy and want them too. Oh the joy and glory of a great pair of shoes!

i must say that i love the Billy Short Booties. it's the short boots that really do it for me. to me boots are really a fashion statement. you can dress up and dress down. it can really pull an outfit together. and that's definitely what i need right now. you know when you feel lost, that you've lost yourself, let yourself go and all it takes is one minor change. when you are really dying for the extra bit of umph. this is definitely the change that would give me a little bit more confidence and give me a bigger bounce in my step.

I really like the Dorado Suede Riding Boots. I've worn high heels almost exclusively since I was 12 (i'm 28 now), so much to the point that until recently, other than a couple pairs of sneakers (that i only wore to work out, I didn't even own a pair of flat shoes. But in June, I sprained my ankle really bad and i still can't wear my beloved high heel shoes (though truly, I'm sincerely happy just to be walking without my crutches and to actually be able to wear shoes on both feet as that was impossible just a few weeks ago). That means my entire shoe wardrobe is pretty much useless, including my fall and winter boots. I'm really struggling to find flat shoes and boots that fit my style aesthetic and are affordable. The boots by Frye def fit the first criteria (though they still are a bit out of range for my budget). This is the first collection of shoes that I have coveted since my accident that were not high heels!

Like everyone else, Im loovving the Matilda Button boots, but I have a back problem that sadly won't allow me to wear such a high heel, not even on a platform:-( Luckily, Frye's forte' has always been low-heels or flats...I'd say the Veronica Slouch are insanely hot;trendy, yet as classic as all Fryes always are. Speaking of classic, the regular Engineer's are always a fave of mine, I just wish the toe were slightly more rounded. Ok, so that's 3 pairs, but it's too hard to pick just 1! I'd love to win the giftcard too, as I've never bought anything at Shopbob cause I can't afford it. Sob. -jewelz4208@hotmail.com

When I meet my niece the other day I had to smile. There she was wearing a pair of Frye boots paired with a great pair of jeans. What memories those Frye boots brought back. In my college years when I had to live on a tight budget my one splurge was a pair of fabulous Frye boots. They made such a (timeless) fashion statement and I wore them with everything. Whether it was to my classes with jeans or on a date with a little mini dress. That is what makes Frye boots worth the investment. Twenty years later my fashion conscious niece is wearing my beloved Frye boots from college. Frye boots have been around forever due to their great quality and style. I love the versatility and design of the Dorado Low boots. They reminded me of my Frye boots from college. They are my absolute favorities. You can wear them with everything and they bring their own unique style to every look.

Thank you Shopbop and A Few Goody Gum Drops for such a special giveaway. Shopbop is my favorite fashion website. They are always connected to the latest designers and the best fashion trends. I check Shopbop daily for "whats new". My latest purchase was two gorgeous sweaters from the design brands Mara Hoffman and Twenty8Twelve. I love them! Thanks Shopbop and A Few Goody Gum Drops for introducing me to these fabulous designers.

I am absolutely intrigued a about the history and the longevity these boots have seemed to obtain over the years. Civil war/WW2 soldiers donned the ever famous Frye boots. And when i think about it, i come to realize we are all fighting for something.
-A solider for his country
-A mother fighting to give her children the best life she can.
-A college student fighting to keep there grades up, money coming in, and social life intact.
-A business owner fighting to keep his/her employee's & not have to let them go in these hard economic times
-A young boy fighting depression
-An artist fighting to sell their work
etc.

At times like this, it seems to me everyone is fighting for something. My generation has come under scrutiny that we have become too materialistic, and have lost the value of the dollar. That we do not understand what it was like for our parents and grandparents walking "15 miles to get to school" not owning a car or having to work long hours for little pay. Well my answer to that is simple. We fight, but our fight has changed. I certainly have not forgotten what struggles my, and your ancestors went through to get us where we are today.

I certainly wont be able to forget when i put on a pair of Frye engineer boots every morning. And i wont let others forget because i wouldn't just be wearing Frye's i'd be wearing history :-)

I am completely head over heels in love with the Melissa Button boot. I've searched all over the internet to find something that is similar but more affordable, but I have been sorely disappointed. Nothing comes even close to the quality and the beauty of authentic Frye boots.

If I were lucky enough to own a pair of the Melissa Button boots, I'd pair them with denim leggings and a long sweater, or regular leggings and a knit dress. I'd plan all my outfits around the boots, because that's how fabulous they are!

There are already a pair of Frye boots sitting in the hall closet at my house. They're butterscotch leather cowboy boots with western detailing running up the sides. They belonged to my mom in her twenties when she was just starting out in the working world. She said she wore them every day, even though the sharp angled toes were a constant source of aggravation.

They were hard to get on, harder to get off, and they chafed, but she did keep wearing them. She wore them every day, for years, until they reached their current deteriorated condition. She definitely didn't like them because they were comfortable, and I don't even think they were that attractive. I think they bolstered her ego. Maybe that's poor word choice-self esteem would be better. Those pointy, painful boots made her feel strong. Competent. Confident.

As I grow up I'm learning what it's like to want to use something as armor, something unique that makes me feel powerful. I want the Billy Pull-On Western boots until, like my mom, I learn not to need them.

Thanks for the giveaway. :)

AAH! I've wanted a pair of Frye boots since I was in high school and was trying to channel a punk rock/alternative vibe. Though my part time work at Dunkin' Donuts barely paid for the coffee there.

I covet the Veronica Slouch boot in brown, and not just because my style is now slouchy as a SAHM. I'd pair these with a vintage wraparound skirt I got at a thrift store in high school. Maybe just walking down the street would bring back those memories.
